MOBILE, Ala. – Top-seeded UL Lafayette was the first team to advance to Sunday's Championship game with a 4-3 victory over fourth-seeded Texas State on Saturday in the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championsthip at Stanky Field in Mobile, Ala.
With the win the Ragin' Cajuns improved their overall record to an astounding 52-7 on the year. The 52 wins match a Sun Belt all-time best as former league member South Florida achieved the number back in 1986.
The Ragin' Cajuns will face the winner of Saturday's second game between No. 2 UT Arlington and No. 3 Arkansas State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. CT on the Sun Belt Network and ESPN3.
Texas State's season comes to a close with a 30-28 record.
Cody Boutte earned the win for the Cajuns and moved to 8-0 on the season. Boutte tossed seven solid innings allowing two earned runs on five hits.
Matt Plitt came on in relief to earn the save for the Cajuns, his fourth of the season.
Dylan Bein went 5.1 innings and suffered the loss, despite only allowing two earned runs.
UL Lafayette jumped on the scoreboard first as the picked up three runs in the top of the second on a Caleb Adams homerun and a triple by Blake Trahan, scoring Michael Strentz and Kyle Clement.
The Cajuns added a fourth and final run in the top of the sixth. The Bobcats made things interesting late as they picked up two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and had the tying run on third in the bottom of the ninth with two outs.
Plitt was able to get a fly ball out ending the Bobcat threat.
Adams led the Cajuns with three hits and Trahan added two, both triples, and two RBI.
David Paiz and Cody Perkins each had two hits for the Bobcats.
