STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern's new head football coach Tyson Summers was officially introduced to Eagle Nation Saturday afternoon at a press conference inside the Ted Smith Family Football Center on campus.
Summers, along with his wife, Beth, and three sons, began the day with a photo shoot in the weight room before moving upstairs for a meet-and-greet with donors in the team lounge before heading to the staff meeting room for last-minute preparation before the main event.
Summers, along with interim president Dr. Jean E. Bartels and athletic director Tom Kleinlein entered the team meeting room at 2 p.m. for the press conference in front of a packed house of media, family, donors and fans. After Bartels and Kleinlein spoke, Kleinlein formally introduced Summers, giving him a "16" GS jersey with his name on the back. He also presented Beth Summers with a bouquet of flowers and each of the boys - Jake, Walker and Anderson - with their own jersey.
Summers then took to the microphone before taking questions from the assembled media.
Once the press conference was over, Summers took time to meet every fan who came up to him, taking photos, listening to stories and taking photos. After that, he was whisked outside for more interviews and then went downstairs for a 1-on-1 with Colin Lacy for a GSEagles.com video and then he finished with one more photo shoot to wrap up the day.
Summers will now begin work as the head man of the Eagles, assembling his staff and wrapping up recruiting before the February signing day.
