Ferguson Named to Ray Guy Watch List
JONESBORO, Ark. (7/9/15) – Arkansas State senior punter Luke Ferguson has been named to the watch list for the 2015 Ray Guy Award, given annually to the nation’s top collegiate punter.
Ferguson, one of 25 players recognized by the award, is the third player in A-State history to be named to the Ray Guy Award watch list. Brett Shrable was named to the list in 2008 and Andy Shatley was honored in 2000.
Ferguson, a third-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection by Phil Steele in 2014, averaged 41.4 yards per punt and put a punt inside the 20-yard line in all but three games. He was also part of a special teams unit that ranked ninth in the country in punt return returns, allowing an average of just 3.1 yards per return.
The Jonesboro, Ark., native enters the 2015 seasons with a career 42.1 yards per punt average, the second highest in school history and was a Preseason Second-Team All-Sun Belt Conference pick by Phil Steele and a third team pick by Athlon Sports.
The number of eligible candidates for this season will grow when the award opens for nominations in September. The complete list of candidates will be released on October 30. In early November, the Ray Guy Award committee will meet to select the ten semi-finalists, who will be announced on November 13. A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, coaches, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners will then vote for the top three finalists, to be announced on November 23. After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation’s top punter. The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN on Thursday, December 10, 2015.

Rehkow on Watch List
University of Idaho junior Austin Rehkow is one of 25 players on the preseason watch list for the Ray Guy Award, which annually recognizes the punter deemed the nation’s best. Rehkow was one of three finalists for the award in 2014 and was on the Watch List as a freshman.
His career average of 47.8 is the highest in the NCAA but he needs 36 more punts to make the official list.
He led the nation in punting as a freshman and finished second as a sophomore in 2014. Both seasons, he averaged 47.8 yards per punt, which put him atop the Idaho career average list. He was first-team all-Sun Belt Conference as a sophomore and the Special Teams Player of the Year for Independent schools as a freshman.
His 2013 average of 47.8 yards per kick is the NCAA Division I freshman record, as well as the NCAA record for punter who kicked a minimum of 75 times.
Rehkow is a two-time Walter Camp All-American – first team was a freshman and second team as a sophomore.
He also is the Vandals’ placekicker – one of just a handful of Division I players to pull double duty as a freshman and sophomore.
