UT Arlington repeats as Sun Belt men’s cross country champions

Dothan, Ala. – The UT Arlington Mavericks used five Top 20 finishers to repeat as Sun Belt Conference men’s cross country champions on Saturday at the Troy University campus in Dothan, Ala.
UTA senior Craig Lautenslager paced the Mavericks with a first-place finish of the 8K course with a time of 24:20.9, and an average of 4:53.9 per mile. Lautenslager took home the individual championship of the men’s meet with the first-place finish after he outlasted UL Lafayette freshman Stanely Limoh down the final straight away towards the finish line.
With his second-place finish, Limoh earned the Freshman of the Year award.
Junior Michael Guerrero (24:37.6) finished fourth, freshman Justin Domangue (25:04.9) finished seventh, sophomore Joel Duren (25:42.7) finished 15th and junior Grayson Birka (25:53.7) round out the Mavericks’ lineup.
UT Arlington head coach John Saurehage was voted the men’s Coach of the Year.
The Mavericks have now won three of the last four men’s championships after claiming the 2013 title in Troy, Ala., and the 2015 crown in Hampton, Ga. UTA is the first repeat winner of the Sun Belt Men’s Cross Country Championship since Little Rock won back-to-back titles in 2001-02.
