Record-Breaking Performances Highlight Weekly Indoor Track & Field Awards

NEW ORLEANS - Three Sun Belt student-athletes shattered school records, earning Indoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Week honors. 

Arkansas State sophomore Erin Farmer and UT Arlington senior Roland Sales earned Women's and Men's Field Student-Athlete of the Week honors, respectively; while UL Lafayette junior Hanoj Carter and Arkansas State sophomore Kristina Knott earned Track Student-Athletes of the Week nods. 

A-State placed multiple student-athletes on the weekly awards list for the fourth time this season. Farmer, the Women's Field Student-Athlete of the Week, broke the school record in the shot put on Saturday at the Don DeNoon Invitational at SIU. She posted a throw of 15.78m (51-09.25) to win the event and move ahead of teammate Calea Carr for the school record. The marks puts her at the top of the Sun Belt rankings and 37th nationally.

A-State's Knott is the Women's Track Student-Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this year. She continued her strong season by tying the school and Sun Belt Conference record in the 60-meter dash on Sunday at the Jaguar Invitational. She posted a time of 7.28 seconds in her lone race of the weekend, tying the mark set by 2014 SBC Champion Sharika Nelvis. Her time ranks sixth nationally in the most recent performance lists.

UTA’s Sales smashed the school record and posted a top-5 national mark in the high jump on Saturday at Texas A&M’s Charlie Thomas Invitational, earning the Men's Field Student-Athlete of the Week nod. He cleared 7 feet 2 ½ inches to win the meet. It is the highest jump in the Sun Belt by 1 ½ inches and also topped the school record by 1 ½ inches. The mark is good for a share of fourth nationally. It is the highest clearance (indoor or outdoor) in UTA history.

UL-L's Carter Set an indoor school-record in the men’s 200-meter dash after posting a first-place time of 21.20 at the Jaguar Invitational, He recorded the winning time in the first heat and shattered the previous school-record (21.44) that was set by Darrell Granger in 1990. His time was the fastest by a Sun Belt Conference student-athlete this season and the ninth-best nationally.
