Sun Belt Releases 2016 Women's Basketball Championship Seeds

Complete Bracket
NEW ORLEANS - The seeds and pairings for the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Championship, presented by First Bank and Trust, have been determined following the conclusion of the conference's regular-season slate of games Saturday evening.  The tournament, hosted at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, La., begins Wednesday, March 9 with the semifinal games scheduled for Friday, March 11. The Championship Game will be played Saturday, March 12 at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

The top three seeds of the tournament were determined last week as Arkansas State, the conference's regular season champion, earned the No. 1 seed. The Red Wolves are 25-4 overall and 19-1 in Sun Belt play. The 19 wins is a new Sun Belt record for conference wins in a season and the 25 ties the A-State school record for wins in a season.

A-State will take on eighth-seeded Appalachian State (10-19, 7-13 SBC) in Wednesday's first game at 11:30 a.m. CT. Appalachian State and Texas State both finished with identical 7-13 records in conference play but the Bobcats earned the higher seed based on their win over Little Rock earlier in the season.

Little Rock (18-11, 16-4 SBC) will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament and as they enter the postseason riding a 13-game winning streak. After losing four of their first seven games, the Trojans reeled off 13-consecutive to close out the season and earn the No. 2 seed. The Trojans were last year’s tournament and regular season champions.

Little Rock will square off with seventh-seeded Texas State (12-18, 7-13 SBC) on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. CT.

UL Lafayette (20-9, 13-7 SBC) enters the tournament having won four of their past six games. The Ragin’ Cajuns are the No. 3 seed in the tournament.

The 20 wins amassed this season marked the first time in program history the Cajuns have posted back-to-back 20 or more win seasons. The Cajuns will face sixth-seeded UT Arlington (15-15, 10-10 SBC) in Wednesday night's finale at 7:30 p.m. CT.

Troy (17-12, 12-8 SBC) is the No. 4 seed in the tournament and will face fifth-seeded South Alabama (15-14, 11-9 SBC) in Wednesday's second game at 2:00 p.m. CT. The Trojans enter the tournament having won five consecutive games as they look for revenge against the Jaguars who swept them this season.

The winners of Wednesday's games will advance to Friday's semifinals with the two winning teams from Friday's games scheduled to meet on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. CT for the tournament championship.

All games of the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Championships will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

3. UL Lafayette (13-7)
4. Troy (12-8)
5. South Alabama (11-9)

** Both Texas State and Appalachian State finished the regular season with identical 7-13 records and they split their season series.
