Texas State's Humpal Tosses Three-Hit, Complete Game Shutout, Earns Sun Belt and NCBWA National Player of the Week Honors
NEW ORLEANS - Texas State's Lucas Humpal was named the Community Coffee Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week after an outstanding performance Friday night against Incarnate Word. The senior righty pulled off a complete-game, three-hit shutout of the Cardinals with 11 strikeouts in the game. Humpal did not give up a single extra-base hit.

His effort also earned the senior the NCBWA National Player of the Week honor. His 11 Ks give him 22 strikeouts to just two walks so far this season. He tallied five strikeouts in the first three innings alone and joined the defense to retire the final 13 consecutive batters of the game to clinch the victory.

Little Rock's Ryan Scott earned Community Coffee Student-Athelte of the Week honors after his amazing week at the plate. Scott went an astounding 14-for-20 in five games last week. Scott began his incredible week with a 5-for-5 performance with two home runs (one inside the park), five RBIs, five runs and a stolen base against Mississippi Valley State. Scott tied the school record for hits as he became the 14th player in program history to accomplish the feat. Scott carried that momentum into the weekend series at Oral Roberts as he went 3 for 4 with two runs and a walk in the first game of the series. Scott went 2 for 4 with a walk in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader and followed that up by going 2 for 3 with two RBIs, two runs, two walks and a double in the second game of the day. Scott wrapped up the weekend by going 2 for 4 with an RBI and a walk. At the end of Sunday’s game, Scott had compiled a streak of six games with multiple hits and extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Midweek action continues this week with early games on Tuesday and Wednesday. This weekend the league begins conference play as ten of the 11 teams will be in action against each other. One team will play a non-conference series and this week that team is Georgia State who will face Lafayette.

Senior Ryan Scott had the best week of his 4-year career at Little Rock as he went 14 for 20 in five games. Scott slugged 1.050 for the week and had an on-base percentage of .769, including 21 total bases. He ended up with nine runs, eight RBIs, five walks, two home runs and a double. Scott began his incredible week with a 5 for 5 performance with two home runs (one inside the park), five RBIs, five runs and a stolen base against Mississippi Valley State. Scott tied the school record for hits as he became the 14th player in program history to accomplish the feat. Scott carried that momentum into the weekend series at Oral Roberts as he went 3 for 4 with two runs and a walk in the first game of the series. Scott went 2 for 4 with a walk in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader and followed that up by going 2 for 3 with two RBIs, two runs, two walks and a double in the second game of the day. Scott now leads the Sun Belt in batting average (.511), hits (24), total bases (40), slugging percentage (.851), on-base percentage (.589) and is tied for the most home runs (4).

AROUND THE SUN BELT CONFERENCE

  • Community Coffee is the official coffee of the Sun Belt Conference. They are sponsoring this season’s baseball student-athlete and pitcher of the week awards as well as the Most Outstanding Player award at the tournament.
  • Little Rock’s Ryan Scott went 14 for 20 for the week and leads the Sun Belt in multiple categories. Scott has had multiple hits in six straight games. Scott’s best game came against Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday as he went 5 for 5 with two home runs (one inside the park), five RBIs, five runs, a walk and a stolen base. Little Rock has recorded at least 10 hits in each of the last seven games.
  • UT Arlington’s Quintin Rohrbaugh is the only Maverick to reach base in all 13 games played this season and is currently carrying an 11-game hit streak. He has eight multi-hit games, including multiple hits in each of his last four contests.
  • Troy broke the attendance record in the 1-2 loss at Alabama and had 3,243 fans in attendance for the Tuesday night game.
  • With 11 strikeouts Friday night, Texas State’s Lucas Humpal has 22 strikeouts to just two walks on the season. He is now just two strikeouts from claiming third place in the Texas State record books for most career strikeouts and just 16 Ks from the top spot.
  • South Alabama’s Kevin Hill moved to eighth on the career strikeouts (231) list at USA in last Friday’s start against Middle Tennessee. Hill finished with nine strikeouts in that start, and passed former Jaguar All-American Mike Fischer (226) to move to eighth all-time. It was Hill’s first Friday night loss sine April 19, 2014. During that unbeaten streak, Hill was 14-0 in 16 starts with 164 strikeouts against 45 walks in 114 1/3 innings pitched prior to Friday’s loss.
