NEW ORLEANS – UL Lafayette senior pole vaulter, Morgann Leleux, set a both a school and LSU Bernie Moore Stadium Track record in the women’s pole vault last weekend in Baton Rouge and was named this week’s Women’s Field Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts.
Leleux cleared the bar at 14'9.5" to claim first-place honors at the LSU Alumni Gold meet. Her clearance is the best in the Sun Belt this season, third in the NCAA East Preliminary and fourth overall nationally. The previous record holder was also Leleux which she broke during her freshman year.
Leleux's teammate, Alena Hrusoci, was named the Women's Track Student-Athlete of the Week after she also set a new Ragin' Cajun school record at the Alumni Gold meet. Hrusoci became the first athlete in school to break the 1-minute barrier in the women’s 400-meter hurdles when she clocked a personal-best time of 58.73 to finish first overall at the LSU Alumni Gold. The time broke her previous school record she set last season and is the best time in the Sun Belt this season.
On the men's side, South Alabama's Christoph Graf earned the Men's Track Student-Athlete of the Week award and Arkansas State's Itamar Levi was named the Men's Field Student-Athlete of the Week.
Graf posted the best time in the Sun Belt Conference this season in the 1,500-meter run after crossing the line in 3:45.12 in the invitational race at Auburn’s War Eagle Invitational. In addition to finishing with a PR at the distance, he missed entering the top five on the program’s all-time performance list by less than a second. Graf also came in sixth place in the 800 meters on Saturday with a season-best time of 1:53.17.
ASU's Levi broke the school record in the discus throw with a launch of 57.28m (187'11"") to finish 11th at the Triton Invite. The previous record was set in 1991 and the throw beat Levi’s previous personal best (54.60m/179'2") by over eight feet. The throw ranks second in the Sun Belt, 12th in the NCAA West Region and 23rd nationally. He also competed in shot put at the Triton Invite, finishing first with a throw of 18.20m (59'8.5").
