NEW ORLEANS – Dates and kickoff times for all of the Sun Belt’s four postseason bowl games were announced Wednesday.
Saturday, Dec. 17 will see the third edition of the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl kickoff at 4:30 p.m. (CT) from the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala. Later that evening, the 16th annual R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl will start at 8 p.m. (CT) in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Both games will air on ESPN.
Dec. 17 will also see the second annual AutoNation Cure Bowl played at the Orlando Citrus Bowl. The game will kickoff at 4:30 p.m. (CT) and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. The bowl will again host a game that has strong ties to charitable organizations working to find a cure for breast cancer.
The Mobile, Ala. based GoDaddy Bowl will host a Sun Belt Conference team for the eighth consecutive year when that game is played and televised by ESPN at 7 p.m. (CT) on Friday, Dec. 23.
The Sun Belt enters the 2016 season after tying its record mark for teams playing in postseason bowl games in 2015. Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Georgia State, and Georgia Southern all played in bowl games making it the first time since 2012 that the Sun Belt has had four teams in bowls. And, with the College Football Playoff, the Sun Belt is guaranteed universal access based strictly on performance. A worthy football team in the Sun Belt can be in the national championship picture, and the league is a permanent part of the “Group of Five” conferences (joining the American Athletic Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Mid-American Conference and Conference USA) that will send its highest-rated champion to a premier Jan. 1 bowl game.
