NEW ORLEANS - Arkansas State senior defensive lineman Jake Swalley and Georgia State senior safety Bobby Baker are semifinalists for the 2016 William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments®, announced Wednesday by the National Football Foundation.
The award recognizes an individual as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation. The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Nov. 1, and each will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2016 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity. One finalist will be named the winner of the William V. Campbell Trophy at the 59th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 6 in New York City, and his postgraduate scholarship will be increased to $25,000.
The 156 candidates have been nominated by their schools as the best all-around student-athlete on their respective teams. Each nominee must meet the highest of standards based on their performance in the classroom, on the field and as outstanding leaders and citizens in the community. The candidates come from all levels of play in the NCAA and the NAIA.
