Sun Belt announces Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (Feb. 1)
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Hakim Montgomery, Troy, So., Troy, Ala.
He was the 60m Champion at Clemson’s Bob Pollock Invitational, running 6.59 seconds … Tied for top spot in the league and for the second best time in the country … He is currently tied for #4 in the World … His time also broke the school record.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Michael Carr, Arkansas State, Sophomore, Jonesboro, Ark.
Carr cleared a personal best 5.21m (17-01.00) in the pole vault to climb to the top of the Sun Belt performance list. He moves up to 31st nationally with his vault last week. He was the top collegiate finisher at the meet and his clearance improved upon his best from last indoor season by 20 inches.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Tramesha Hardy, Texas State, Sophomore, Houston, Texas
Tramesha Hardy set top SBC times in three different events at this past weekend’s adidas Classic in Nebraska. She won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.46, which was third-fastest in school history. She also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 23.94. She led off the 4x400-meter relay team that broke the school record with a mark of 3:42.93.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jamelia Owens, Georgia Southern, Sophomore, Canton, Miss
Jamelia Owens broke the school record in the Shot Put event having a 14.69m throw. Her throw was good enough to place second in the meet and move her into seventh in the Sun Belt Conference standings. She beat her previous best of 13.35m in the indoor Shot Put.
