Texas State Leads After Round 1 of Women's Golf Championship

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - Texas State's women's golf team leads after the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golf Championship at the Fighting Joe Course at the Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Ala. Texas State fired a three-under 285 on day one and leads Troy by two strokes heading into tomorrow's second round.

Little Rock is third as they carded a team total 291 (three-over), Arkansas State sits in fourth (293) and Georgia State (296) rounds out the top five teams.

The Bobcats were led by sophomore Anne-Charlotte Mora and freshman Sasikarn Somboonsup as the pair combined for a nine-under par day for Texas State. Mora leads the individual race as she shot a five-under 67 in round one while Somboonsup finished with a four-under 68 and is second.

Little Rock's Shania Berger and Troy's Fatima Cano are tied for third at three-under par (69). Cano's teammate, Biana Lohbauer, finished with a two-under 70 and sits in fifth place.

Mora's round consisted of six birdies, three on the front nine and three on the back nine. She had just one bogey all day and that came on the par four 16th. The 16th hole was the most difficult hole in round one as all 50 players made par or worse on the hole. She was two-under on the par threes today and three-under on the par fours.

Texas State, Troy and Little Rock will be paired together for Tuesday’s second round, which is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. CT for players in those groupings. Round two officially begins at 8:00 a.m. CT with groups going off split tees at Nos. 1 and 10.
