MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Troy Trojans moved into first place in the team standings after round two of the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golf Championship at the Fighting Joe Course at the Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Ala. Troy followed up yesterday's 287 with a round of 300 (+12) but managed to move ahead of Texas State's lead from day one.
The Bobcats slipped to third place in the standings as they closed out round two with a 305 (+17). Georgia State fired a 293 (+5) as they improved three spots and moved into second place in the standings and will play in tomorrow's final pairings. The 293 was the third lowest total for the Panthers this season and was lowest total of the second round.
All 10 teams shot over par on Tuesday as teams struggled with the wind and pin placements throughout the round.
Troy's Fatima Cano leads the individual standings as she followed up her first round 69 with a second round 71 (-1). Cano was one of two players to shoot under par in the second round and leads the field by a stroke at four-under. GSU's Solene Le Coz was the other as she led all participants with a career-low tying second round two-under 70. She Le Coz's 70 not only helped GSU move into the top three but also propelled the senior into the top five. She opened round two in 36th place.
Texas State's Sasikarn Somboonsup is second in the individual standings at three-under. Little Rock's Shania Berger is third at one-under.
Georgia State sits just two strokes behind leader Troy and will be paired with the Trojans and Texas State for the final round. Just three strokes separate the first and third place teams in the standings. A title for Troy would be its third in the last four years. Georgia State will be seeking its sixth overall conference title and first as a member of the Sun Belt Conference. Texas State will be seeking its second consecutive women's golf title. Round two begins at 7:30 a.m. CT with groups going off split tees at Nos. 1 and 10.
