Nick Gatewood (Georgia State, Sophomore, C)
Georgia State catcher Nick Gatewood went 11-for-21 (.524) with three home runs last week to help the Panthers to three road victories, including a split at Big Ten foe Minnesota and then a series win at Texas State. He scored six runs and drove in four, compiling a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .545 on-base percentage. Gatewood homered in both GSU victories over Texas State and collected six hits in the series, helping keep the Panthers in position to earn a berth in the Sun Belt Tournament. He also caught all 27 innings of the series. At Texas State, Gatewood hit a two-run homer in the first inning of Friday’s 11-7 victory. He added two more hits in Saturday’s 10-9 loss. In Sunday’s 11-8 win, he singled to set up the tying run in the fifth inning and then homered in Georgia State’s decisive five-run seventh inning. In two games at Minnesota, Gatewood went 5-for-7 with a homer. The sophomore from Lawrenceville, Ga., is the Panthers’ leading hitter at .336, sixth in the Sun Belt. Since becoming the Panthers’ every day catcher, he is hitting .368 with five homers and 17 RBI in 24 games.

Jakob Hernandez (UTA, Junior, LHP)
Junior southpaw Jakob Hernandez pitched UTA to a series sweep clincher on Sunday at Arkansas State, firing seven shutout, three-hit innings in a narrow 2-0 win … He allowed only three hits – two singles – walking one and striking out nine, equaling his most in conference play … He allowed base runners to reach scoring position just once in his seven frames … On the year, Patterson has fanned 83 and walked 33 in 73.2 innings, earning a perfect 6-0 record and a 3.05 ERA in 12 starts … In UTA's road games in 2017, Hernandez has won each start, sporting a 5-0 record and a 1.53 ERA, punching out 44 in 35.1 innings, allowing just 19 hits.
