BERGE, SHAARI IN TOP 10 AS USA WOMEN’S GOLF CLOSES DAY TWO AT USA INTERCOLLEGIATE
MOBILE. Ala. – Freshmen Siti Shaari and Caroline Berge lead the way for the Jaguar women's golf team as the Jaguars sit in fourth place after the second round of the USA Intercollegiate.
Shaari posted a second even-par round (72) for the competition and is in a tie for seventh. Berge is in a tie for 10th after finishing the second round with a score of 75 (+3) and sits with a figure of 145 (+1) for the tournament. Freshman Julie Hovland posted a 74 (+2) during the second the second round and junior MacKenzie Peyton capped off the second round with a 76 (+4).

UTA Women's Golf Makes 2nd Round Improvement
MOBILE, Ala. -- The UTA women's golf team made a two stroke improvement over yesterday's team score, while freshman Ava Schwienteck is among the top 10 individuals as the Mavericks concluded the second round of their first-ever tournament today at the USA Intercollegiate.
UTA has registered team scores of 302-300 over the first two rounds for a 26-over par 602. The Mavericks are in eighth place in the 13-team field and trail seventh place McNeese by four strokes. UTA owns a 15 stroke lead over ninth place Alabama State.
Lamar University leads the tournament after turning in an impressive 11-under par 277 today and is a 3-under for the tournament. Tulane is in second place at 2-over par, while UAB is two strokes behind in third place.
The teams return to the 6,002-yard, par 72 Robert Trent Jones-designed Magnolia Grove Crossings Course tomorrow beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CDT) for the tournament's final round. UTA will start off the first tee and is paired with golfers from Alabama State and McNeese.
For the second straight day, Schwienteck (Magnolia, Texas) led the Mavericks as she followed-up yesterday's 1-over par 73 with an even par 72. She sits in a 3-golfer tie for 10th place in the medalist competition at 1-over par, just three strokes away from third place.
Lamar's Eva Martinez leads the tournament at 6-under par with a one stroke lead over second place Maria Donado of UAB.
After starting slowly yesterday, Schwienteck came out firing early in today's second round. She was at 2-under par after her first seven holes before finishing the back nine at 1-under after a bogey on 17. A pair of bogeys on the front put her at 1-over on the day, but she rebounded with a birdie on the par 3 eighth hole then made par on No. 9 to finish at even par.
Redshirt freshman Allison Wade (Arlington,Texas) went 2-over on the back before pulling a stroke back with a birdie on the par 3 second hole. However, a double bogey dropped her to3-over par 75 on the day. Wade enters tomorrow's final round in a tie for 24th with rounds of 74-75 for a 5-over par 149.
Freshman Madigan Murray (McKinney, Texas) made the biggest improvement over yesterday, finishing seven strokes better than her first round. After going 2-over on the back nine then dropping a third stroke on the front, like Schwienteck, she birdied No. 8 to finish at 2-over. Murray is tied for 45th with scores of 81-74 for an 11-over par 155.
Freshman Kate Tran (Arlington, Texas) and junior Rachel Phillips (Plano, Texas) are tied for 51st in the 74-golfer field at 13-over par 157. Tran has turned in rounds of 78-79, while Phillips registered scores of 77-80.
Playing as an individual, freshman Sydney Garber (Rockwall, Texas) made a 4-stroke improvement over yesterday with a 4-over par 76. Although her scores do not count toward the team totals, her rounds of 80-76 place her 12-over par in a tie for 48th place in the medalist competition.
A-State Opens Season at Sunflower Invitational
MANHATTAN, Kan. (9/17/17) – Competing in its 2017-18 season-opening tournament, the Arkansas State women’s golf team shot a first-round 306 Monday at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational to place it fourth among nine teams.
The Red Wolves were led by two players finishing the three-day tournament’s opening 18 holes among the top 15 players. Junior Beth Ann Compton and sophomore Grayson Gladden both carded a 75 to put them in a tie for 11th place.
A-State ended the first round just three strokes behind third-place North Texas and within seven of second-place Tulsa, while Kansas State leads the field with a 287. The Red Wolves currently stand ahead of Kansas, Rutgers, Little Rock, Georgia Southern and Central Arkansas.
Also competing for the Red Wolves, Aracelly Jimenez Rios and Sarah Childers both shot a 78 to place them tied for 27th. Emma Miller is tied for 44th place with an 82 and Maria Jose Atristain Vega, competing as an individual, is tied for 46th.
The tournament will continue Monday with the second round.

HARRISON & LOHBAUER PACE TROY ON DAY TWO OF USA INVITATIONAL
MOBILE, Alabama – Sarah Harrison and Bianca Lohbauer fired under-par rounds to lead Troy in Sunday's second round of the USA Invitational at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. The Trojans are in fifth place heading into Monday's final round.
Harrison is Troy's leader in the clubhouse as she is tied for seventh place overall at 2-over for the tournament. She carded four birdies on the day, including two in her final three holes to card a 1-under 71.
Lohbauer also finished her round strong after making the turn at 1-over and then going to 2-over with a bogey on the 10th. She got one stroke back with a birdie on No. 12 and moved into the red with back-to-back birdies on No. 16 and No. 17. She is tied for 16th place overall at 3-over.
Lindsey Harrison is on the cusp of a top-10 finish as she is tied for 13th place at 2-over after shooting a 2-over 74 in Sunday's round, which featured a trio of birdies. Eva Fabricius-Bjerre carded a 3-over 75 and is tied for 24th, while Bria Jansen is tied for 55th at 14-over.
Troy also has a pair of players competing as individuals in the event with Antonia Poate sitting tied for 38th place at 10-over following an 80 on Sunday and Abby Parks tied for 45th after shooting 3-over in the second round.
Lamar shot up the leaderboard behind a round of 11-under to grab a 5-shot lead over Tulane. Troy is just six shots back of UAB for third while South Alabama is in fourth just a shot ahead of the Trojans.
Troy will hit the course Monday at 9:20 a.m. for the final round alongside South Alabama and Western Kentucky.
