MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – The weather was better in today’s second round of the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship and Coastal Carolina’s women’s golf team took advantage of it.
The Chanticleers shot a two-over 286 to remain atop the leaderboard. Coastal's nearest competitor heading into the third and final round is Troy, which is 23 strokes back.
Troy started the day in third place but was able to move up to second place behind the Chanticleers. UTA, competing in its first Sun Belt Women's Golf Championship, moved up to third place in the team standings with a 22-over 306. UTA has also done it with just four competitors at the championship.
CCU senior Malene Krolboll Hansen shot a two-under 69 in the second round moving her to an even-par 142 (73-69). She had the low round of the day and has moved into first place overall in the event. She will enter tomorrow’s final round four strokes in front of Lindsey Harrison of Troy who is four strokes back at +4 (146).
Hansen's teammate, Frantiska Lunackova, finished the second round bogey-free with her one-under 70. She had 17 pars on the day and birdied the third hole, finishing the event with 15 consecutive pars. She heads into Wednsday’s action with a five-over 147 (77-70) and is tied for fifth place. Joining Hansen and Lunackova under was junior Sena Ersoy, who shot a one-under 70. She enters tomorrow’s final round at five-over.
CCU’s 286 is the lowest team round in its two years of Sun Belt Conference Championship action, while Hansen’s 69 is the lowest individual round in SBC tournament competition for the Chants.
Round three begins at 7:30 a.m. (CT) from split tees on Nos. 1 and 10. The top six teams will all tee off on the No. 1 hole, while Nos. 7 through 11 will go off the No. 10 tee on Tuesday.
