Georgia State, South Alabama Advance to Men’s Title Match at 2018 Sun Belt Tennis Championships

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The men’s championship match at the 2018 Sun Belt Women’s Tennis Championships will be identical to the women’s as No. 1 Georgia State and No. 3 South Alabama advance with 4-0 wins in Saturday’s semifinals.

The women's and men's championship matches will be played on the indoor courts from the Peachtree City Tennis Center due to impending weather in the Peachtree City area.
 
The Panthers scored their semifinal victory over No. 4 Troy with the wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles and Nos. 1, 3 and 6 singles, while the Jaguars secured their victory over No. 7 Appalachian State wins at their top two doubles positions and No. 2, 3 and 5 singles.
 
Georgia State senior Andre Andrukhou, a first-team All-Sun Belt selection, clinched the match for the Panthers with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 1. South Alabama junior Sasha Modica clinched the match for the Jaguars with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3.
 
This year’s title showdown is a rematch of 2017 championship match that saw the Panthers win their second Sun Belt men’s tennis title. South Alabama seeks their 19th Sun Belt men’s tennis title and first since 2008.
 
Sunday’s championship match is set for live coverage on ESPN3 and WatchESPN at 1:00 PM CT/2:00 PM ET with Matt Stewart and Ken Thomas calling the action from the Peachtree City Tennis Center. Live stats will be available on SunBeltSports.org.
