Coastal Carolina Shoots -9; Senior Deneen Cards Career-Low 63 in Round Two

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. - Coastal Carolina shot a tournament low as a team, 275 (-9), in the second round to increase its overall lead at the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship to 17 strokes. Coastal was led by senior Morgan Deneen who carded a personal and Sun Belt championship best eight-under (63).

Deneen had a total of 11 birdies in the second round as he leads second place by three strokes. He opened the tournament with a two-over 73 on Sunday. Deneen, a walk-on, joined the Chanticleers golf team in August, entered the Sun Belt tournament with a 73.7 scoring average.

Georgia Southern improved 10 strokes in round two to sit in second place after carding a team total 288 (+4). Texas State sits third and UTA is fourth. ULM is fifth with Troy and South Alabama trailing the Warhawks at Nos. 6 and 7.

The top four teams after stroke play advance to the match play semifinals. Seven strokes separate the six teams sitting second through seventh place in the overall team standings.

One of the other highlights on the day, other than the much lower scores in round two, was Nathan Williams' first career hole-in-one. The Georgia State junior aced the par three 130-yard 12th hole. Williams shot a 2-over 73 and sits at 10-over par tied for 33rd in the individual standings.

Monday's average score was 73.47, three strokes on average better than Sunday's first round. Weather was much better on Monday with winds only picking up later in the afternoon. Five holes played under par in round two. No. 15 played the easiest with a 3.80 stroke average with 22 birdies made.

Round three begins at 7:30 a.m. (CT) from split tees on Nos. 1 and 10. The top six teams will all tee off on the No. 1 hole, while Nos. 7 through 12 will go off the No. 10 tee.
