Final Match Play Results
MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers claimed the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf team title after defeating the Georgia Southern Eagles in the championship match, 4-1, on Wednesday at the Raven Golf Club at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.
This was Coastal's first Sun Belt men's golf title since the school joined the league in July of 2016.
With the win, the Chanticleers will receive the Sun Belt's automatic bid to the NCAA men's golf championships. The NCAA men's golf selections will be announced on Wednesday, May 2 on The Golf Channel starting at 5:00 p.m. (CT).
CCU claimed victories in the first and third matches with Thadd Obecny II winning his second match of the day, 6&4, over Georgia Southern's Archer Price.
Daniel Overas earned CCU's second point with another 6&4 win over Jacob Bayer from the Eagles. The Chants earned the clinching third point from States Fort as he sunk his putt on the 15th hole. Fort won his match, 4&3, over Luukas Alakulppi. Fort's clinching point was his second of the day as he was the deciding point in CCU's semifinal match with South Alabama.
SEMIFINAL RECAPS
Top-seeded Coastal Carolina earned a 3-2 win over No. 4 South Alabama on Wednesday morning in the first of two match play semifinals of the Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship. Third-seeded Georgia Southern knocked off No. 2 UTA, 3-2, in the other semifinal on Wednesday.
CCU's Daniel Overas and States Fort won their matches, 4&2 and 3&1, respectively, over Yannick Schütz and Brooks Rabren of the Jaguars. Thadd Obecny II clinched Coastal's final point with a 2UP win over Jason Mendel.
Georgia Southern's Archer Price and Jake Storey quickly won their matches, 5&4 and 3&2, over Jake Greenspoon and Tanner Gore. Steven Fisk was GS's clinching point with a 5&4 win over Aaron Guanlao. The Eagles won all three matches with UTA conceding the final two on course.
