NEW ORLEANS - With the eventual landfall of Hurricane Florence expected by the end of the week, several Sun Belt Conference teams have had to alter scheduled contests. The forecast calls for an extreme weather event heading into the weekend that will affect multiple institutions and their athletic programs along the East Coast.
Below are the impacted contests that were scheduled for this weekend and any makeup or schedule changes that have been agreed upon by both parties:
FOOTBALL
Coastal Carolina defeated Campbell, 58-21, on Wednesday in a game originally scheduled for Saturday. The two teams agreed to move up the contest to avoid any lingering effects from Florence.
Appalachian State's game with Southern Miss will not be played as scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 15.
Georgia Southern's game with Clemson, originally slated for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 15, has been moved up to 11 a.m. CT.
All other Sun Belt football contests will kick at the scheduled times.
CROSS COUNTRY
Winthrop's Adidas Invitational, which was hosting Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina and Georgia Southern has been cancelled. The school has announced a rescheduled date of Oct. 5.
Appalachian State will send its squad to the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational on Friday as scheduled.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Appalachian State's match with South Alabama, scheduled for Friday, has been postponed with a make-up date to be announced at a later time. South Alabama will still face Georgia State on Sunday in Atlanta.
App's match with Little Rock, scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 16, will now be played on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Boone, N.C.
Coastal Carolina's match with Little Rock, scheduled for Friday in Conway, S.C., has been moved to Kennesaw, Ga. with an 11 a.m. CT kick.
Georgia Southern's match against Louisiana on Sunday, Sept. 16 has been postponed.
MEN'S SOCCER
Coastal Carolina's match with Radford was postponed - the match was to be played on Tuesday, Sept. 11. A make-up date for that match has not yet been announced. Sunday's match with George Mason was cancelled and will not be made up.
Appalachian State's Sunday, Sept. 16 match with Bradley has been cancelled.
Georgia State's match against Presbyterian, originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, has been moved to Friday, Sept 14 at 12:30 p.m. CT.
VOLLEYBALL
Coastal Carolina's tournament, the Coastal Carolina Classic, set for this weekend has been cancelled.
Georgia Southern's matches with Savannah State and USC Upstate have been altered to 10 a.m. CT and 5 p.m. CT, respectively, on Friday, Sept. 14. The Eagles' match with Savannah State set for Saturday, Sept. 15 has been changed to 11 a.m. CT.
TENNIS
Coastal Carolina's women's team was scheduled to participate in the College of Charleston Fall Invitational but the tournament was cancelled.
Georgia Southern's women's tennis was also scheduled to play at the College of Charleston Fall Invitational. The men's squad was headed to USC Upstate for a tournament but that has also been cancelled.
