Louisiana's Gant Grabs Men's Basketball Player of the Week Award

JaKeenan Gant, Louisiana (Sr., F, Springfield, Ga.)

Louisiana senior forward JaKeenan Gant averaged 29.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.5 steals, keeping up his torrid start to Sun Belt play and helping the Ragin’ Cajuns earn a split during their two-game trip to his home state. For the week, Gant went 23-for-38 (60.5 percent) from the floor, 4-for-8 from behind the three-point line and 8-for-8 from the free throw line. He posted double-doubles in both contests to extend his season total to six and his active streak to three. Gant opened the week at Georgia State with a 36-point, 11-rebound contest, going 14-for-21 from the floor, 2-for-4 from long range and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Gant concluded the week at Georgia Southern, playing a half-hour from his hometown, and scored 22 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out a career-high five assists and blocked five shots. His biggest block came in the final seconds as Louisiana claimed a two-point win. Gant extended his streak of consecutive made free throws to 19 after sinking a pair late in the Georgia Southern game, giving Louisiana two-point lead. The Springfield, Ga., native recorded his 1,000th-career point during his college career that included his first two seasons at Missouri. He enters the week with 1,019 points in his collegiate career and 754 points in his second season at Louisiana.
