Burlsworth Trophy Release
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Six Sun Belt Conference football student-athletes were named 2019 nominees for the Burlsworth Trophy, given annually to the most outstanding football player in America who began his career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field.
Appalachian State senior offensive lineman Noel Cook, Arkansas State sophomore placekicker Blake Grupe, Coastal Carolina senior cornerback Chandler Kryst, Georgia State senior safety Remy Lazarus, Louisiana senior defensive back Deuce Wallace and Troy sophomore linebacker Carlton Martial are among the record 83 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision players nominated.
In the its 10th year, the Burlsworth Trophy is named in honor of Brandon Burlsworth, former Arkansas walk-on and All-America offensive lineman.Each nominee must have begun his first season of participation with FBS football program without financial aid of any kind from his university’s athletics department.
The Brandon Burlsworth Foundation, in conjunction with Springdale Rotary Club, will host an awards ceremony on Dec. 9 in Springdale, Ark., to honor three finalists and announce the 2019 winner.
