Shaw Named NCAA National Coordinator of Football Officials

NEW ORLEANS – Steve Shaw, Sun Belt Conference Coordinator of Football Officials for the last seven seasons, has been named the NCAA National Coordinator of Football Officials. He will assume the national role in March 2020.

Shaw, who has also headed the football officiating efforts for the Southeastern Conference since 2011, is replacing Rogers Redding who is retiring from the position on Jan. 31, 2020.

"We are grateful to Steve for his hard work and dedication in developing our Sun Belt football officiating program to be one of the best in college football," said Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill. "Steve's passion for the game is unquestioned and we look forward to continuing to support our shared vision to enhance football officiating on the national level."

In addition to his conference coordinator roles, Shaw currently serves as the NCAA secretary-rules editor for football, chair of the Collegiate Commissioners Association National Mechanics Committee and a member of the NCAA Football Rules Editorial Subcommittee.

Under Shaw, the Sun Belt has expanded the technology supporting the league's officiating program, including video evaluations and training, in-game replay and on-field communications. He led in the creation of a collaborative replay system that features a central location to review replays from every Sun Belt and SEC game. The 2019 season marks the third year the Sun Belt is one of only five Football Bowl Subdivision conferences, joining the SEC, Atlantic Coast, Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences, to use a collaborative replay system and the only Group of Five conference to do so.

Shaw was an SEC on-field official for 15 years earning 14 postseason assignments, including two national championship games, eight Bowl Championship Subdivision bowl games and four SEC Football Championship games.

A national search for the next Coordinator of Football Officials for the Sun Belt and SEC will begin immediately.
