INDIANAPOLIS – Georgia State is headed to Tulsa, Okla. as a No. 14 seed facing No. 3 seed Houston in a Midwest Region first-round matchup in the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.
The Panthers and the Cougars meet for the first time ever on Friday, March 22 at BOK Center. Tipoff is set for 6:20 p.m. CT on TBS and March Madness Live.
Georgia State is making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance overall and third in five seasons. In 2015, when a No. 14-seed, the Panthers became the Cinderella of the 'Big Dance' when R.J. Hunter hit a 30-foot three-pointer with 2.6 seconds to play to stun No. 3-seed Baylor as head coach Ron Hunter fell off a stool. The elder Hunter had torn his Achilles in the Sun Belt Tournament championship game celebration a week before. ‘The Shot’ capped a 13-0 run to finish the game with 12 of those points coming from R.J. Hunter.
Georgia State has won two NCAA Tournament games, the second came as a No. 11 seed over sixth-seeded Wisconsin in 2001.
