COMMUNITY COFFEE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brittani Reid, South Alabama (Jr., OF, Kansas City, Mo.)
South Alabama junior outfielder Brittani Reid played an important role in helping the Jaguars close out the home portion of their regular-season schedule with a 3-1 record with a midweek win over McNeese and a Sun Belt series win over Georgia Southern. For the week, Reid was 7-for-14 (.500) at the plate with a .929 slugging percentage. Four of her seven hits went for extra bases – three doubles and a home run – with two walks, four runs scored, seven RBI and a team-high 13 total bases. Against McNeese, Reid went 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk, a double, two RBI and a run scored. With South Alabama trailing after the opening half inning, she led off the bottom of the first with a single and came around to score the Jaguars' first run on freshman shortstop Kennedy Cronan's RBI single. Her next time up, Reid put South Alabama in front with a two-run double. In the series-opening win over Georgia Southern, Reid was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and finished just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle as she recorded a double, hit her seventh home run of the season, scored twice and drove in a career-high four runs. That double set the school record for doubles in a season. In Game 2 of the series, Reid extended her program mark as she posted her 17th double of the season – her sixth-straight game with a double – with a run scored and an RBI.
COMMUNITY COFFEE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Summer Ellyson, Louisiana (Jr., P, Lafayette, La.)
Louisiana junior pitcher Summer Ellyson recorded four victories for the second-straight week, including all three of a Sun Belt series, as the Ragin' Cajuns extended their winning streak to 23 games. Ellyson surrendered only two earned runs and nine hits in 22.1 innings pitched over her four appearances. She struck out 29 batters, posting at least five strikeouts each outing. Against Louisiana Tech, Ellyson became the first Ragin' Cajun since Jordan Wallace in 2013 to reach 30 wins in a season when she limited Conference USA leader Louisiana Tech to two hits over six innings in a road victory. In the weekend series against Coastal Carolina, Ellyson pitched 16.1 innings and did not allow a single run to the Sun Belt's leading home run hitting squad, limiting the Chanticleers to seven hits, two doubles and a .123 average. She posted 24 strikeouts, including a series-high 12 in the opener, for the most recorded by a pitcher against Coastal Carolina in conference play. Ellyson concluded the series with 5.2 innings of perfect softball in relief in the series finale, retiring all 17 batters she faced to shift the momentum and lead Louisiana to a 3-2 come-from-behind win.
