INDIANAPOLIS — The field of 64 teams competing for the 2019 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship was announced Monday by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.
Coastal Carolina (35-24-1, 15-13 Sun Belt) was selected to the Atlanta Regional as the No. 3 seed and will face Auburn (33-25, 14-16 SEC) on Friday, May 31 at 11 a.m. CT. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
The Chanticleers outscored the Georgia Southern Eagles 9-1 over the final six innings of play as they claimed their second consecutive Sun Belt Baseball Championship, 9-7, on Sunday, May 26. Coastal recorded five-straight wins after dropping its first game in the tournament to win the championship, the first time the Chants won five-straight games since March 15-23 this season.
The Chants hit three or more home runs in four of their five games and registered a total of 90 base hits over the tournament, eclipsing the previous Sun Belt Tournament team record of 89 set by FIU in 2010.
CCU has won 16 overall conference titles (two with the Sun Belt) and is making its 17th appearance to the NCAA Regionals (second as a member of the Sun Belt).
