2019 Postseason All-America Teams: Softball America | NFCA
NEW ORLEANS – Sun Belt softball earned multiple postseason honors to cap off the 2019 season as Louisiana junior pitcher Summer Ellyson and junior catcher Julie Rawls and UTA senior outfielder Laura Curry earned All-America recognitions.
Ellyson received two All-America selections – second team by Softball America and third team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association – while Rawls and Curry were honorable mention All-America picks by Softball America.
The nation’s leader in wins at all levels of collegiate softball this season, Ellyson posted a 39-6 mark to become the first Ragin’ Cajun to reach 30 wins since 2013. The Sun Belt Conference’s Pitcher of the Year recorded the second-most wins (39) and third-most strikeouts (354) in program history. Ellyson's first All-America honor marks the 54th for a Louisiana player in school history.
Rawls, converted from an outfielder to catcher, posted a team-high tying 10 home runs, team-leading 49 RBI and 16 multiple-hit games. Her presence behind the plate has seen Louisiana go from yielding 64 stolen base attempts in 2018 to just 28 this season.
Curry broke the school single-season hits record, finishing the year as the NCAA Division I hits leader with 91 hits. She also finished the season with the second-highest batting average in school history, hitting .440 on the season. Curry helped lead the Mavericks to the National Invitational Softball Championship title, named Most Valuable Player of the NISC Nacogdoches Regional and to the NISC Championship Round All-Tournament Team.
