Six Sun Belt Student-Athletes Earn Google Cloud Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-America Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Six Sun Belt Conference student-athletes were named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Cross Country/Track & Field teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
On the men’s side, Louisiana’s Zachary Lewis was named to the second team, while South Alabama’s Sean Collins and Troy’s Daniel Glick were both named to third team.
 
Appalachian State’s Emily Fedders and Georgia State’s Lotte Meyberg earned first team honors on the list of female student-athletes, while Meyberg’s teammate Angelo Alonso.
 
Lewis competed in both the shot put and discus for Louisiana, ranking 10th overall in the Sun Belt Conference in the shot put (52-10 ¼). He finished eighth overall in the shot put at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships and was second overall in the shot put (52-0 ½) at the LSU Invitational.  An eight-time member on the UL Lafayette President's List and one of a record 25 summa cum laude graduates during the Spring 2019 Commencement ceremonies, Lewis was named to the All-District 6 team last month that includes all Division I schools in the following states: Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
 
Collins received a biology degree in May, finishing the program with a 3.65 GPA. He was a three-time Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's list selection after maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The 2016 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and USA Freshman Scholar-Athlete of the Year also received USA's Perseverance Award twice during his career. The Mobile, Ala., native won six Sun Belt pole vault championships in seven attempts, including a four-year sweep of the outdoor titles. He received all-America recognition three times and finished second in the nation during the 2016 indoor season. As a freshman, he set the league's indoor and outdoor pole vault records; the outdoor record stood until 2019, when he cleared 5.53m (18-01.75) at the Sun Belt Championships. A four-time NCAA East Region Preliminary Round qualifier, Collins placed sixth at this year's event to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championship but was unable to compete at nationals due to an injury.
 
Glick posted another perfect 4.0 grade point average as a communication arts & speech major. During the track season, Glick ran the 1500m race at the Doc Anderson Invitational in 4:04.48 good for third place. At the Sun Belt Outdoor Conference Championships, Glick ran a season-best time of 9:27.62 in the 3000m steeplechase.
 
Fedders, a geology major, posted another strong cross country season. At the Sun Belt Championships, she earned Third Team All-Sun Belt honors with a 14th place finish, helping the Mountaineers capture the conference title for the second time in three seasons. The all-conference finish also marked her third straight All-Sun Belt accolade. In the indoor track & field season, Fedders scored points for App State at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships, placing fourth in the 5,000-meter run in 17:39.37. During the outdoor season, Fedders etched her name into the record books with a second-place finish in the 10,000-meter run at the Sun Belt Championships with a time of 36:33.45 Her time ranks as the seventh fastest time in the event in program history. It also marked the second straight season she earned All-Sun Belt honors in the 10,000-meter run.
 
Meyberg, a junior from Buettelborn, Germany, is a nutrition major with a 4.23 GPA. Meyberg was a Google Cloud All-American in 2018 and earned All-Sun Belt honors for cross country in 2018 and 2017. She claimed a Sun Belt title in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2019 Sun Belt Outdoor Championships and placed second in the 5000m.
 
Alonso, a junior from Valladolid, Spain, holds a 4.02 GPA as a political science major. She won a Sun Belt Indoor Championship in the mile earlier this semester and at the 2019 Sun Belt Outdoor Championship, Alonso placed second in the 1500m to earn eight team points for GSU. It is her second straight season with Google Cloud Academic All-District honors.
