NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On the opening day of the 2019 volleyball campaign, Arkansas State went 1-1 to open the Santiago Restrepo era, dropping a tight 3-2 season-opener to Milwaukee before sweeping North Alabama to mark Restrepo’s first win as head coach on Friday at the Bruiser Showcase.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Youth was evident in Little Rock's season debut as the Trojans dropped the season opener, 3-0, to Montana State in the first match of the Arkansas Classic at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville Friday morning.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – South Alabama dropped a pair of matches on day one of the Purdue-Fort Wayne Invitational at Gates Sports Center. USA fell to Western Michigan in three sets in the season opener and dropped an afternoon match to Northern Kentucky in four sets.

HOUSTON, Texas – UTA split the season opener at the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup at the University of Houston on Friday to begin the season at 1-1.  The Mavs completed a comeback in five sets against Texas A&M Corpus Christi in game one (7-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-16, 16-14) before being swept by Louisiana State in the nightcap (19-25, 21-25, 23-25).

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Troy (1-0, 0-0 Sun Belt) won its first match of the season Friday afternoon after sweeping Southeastern Louisiana, 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 26-24). The Trojans are now 2-1 in season openers under head coach Josh Lauer.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Appalachian State topped Samford 3-2 and fell to No. 24-ranked Arizona 3-0 on Day 1 of the Cactus Classic to open the 2019 season.

MACON, Ga. – Maddie Bryant posted 21 kills, 13 digs and four aces, and Georgia Southern split a pair of matches on opening day of the 2019 season. The Eagles topped Campbell 3-0 in the opener and fell 3-0 to host Mercer in the nightcap.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State opened the 2019 season with a solid victory as the Bobcats defeated Liberty 3-1 (25-13, 24-26, 25-21, 25-18) Friday afternoon at Strahan Arena.

NEW ORLEANS – ULM rolled into New Orleans on Friday ready to take care of business. The Warhawks won their first two matches of the season by defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff and New Orleans.

LAFAYETTE, La. – Louisiana fell short in a pair of three-set matches with Incarnate Word and UTEP on the opening day of the 2019 season and The DoubleTree Classic at Earl K. Long Gym.

Coastal Carolina 3, Loyola (Md.) 0
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Coastal Carolina opened the 2019 season with a 3-0 sweep (32-30, 28-26, 25-14) of Loyola Maryland Friday afternoon in the Chanticleers' first match of the UVA Cavalier Classic at Memorial Gym.

Western Carolina 3, Georgia State 1
ATLANTA – Georgia State fell 3-1 (25-27, 25-27, 25-21, 23-25) in the home opener to Western Carolina on Friday Night. Morgan Hashand Meisheia Griffin led the Panthers' offensivewith 15 and 10 kills respectively. 

Arkansas 3, Little Rock 0
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Two extremely close sets put Little Rock in striking distance but the Trojans fell just short of claiming a set in a loss at Arkansas Friday evening. The match marked the first time the two Natural State schools met in the regular season.

Southern California 3, Texas State 1
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State gave No. 14 Southern California all that they could handle Friday evening in Strahan Arena. The Bobcats pushed the nationally ranked team four sets, but ultimately fell, 3-1 (28-26, 15-25, 17-25, 23-25) in front of 2,583 fans. Friday night's home crowd ranks No. 4 all-time in the volleyball program's history.  

Troy 3, Jacksonville State 0
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Troy (2-0, 0-0 Sun Belt) capped off its unbeaten day at the Jax State Invitational with a 3-1 win over Jacksonville State (0-2, 0-0 OVC). This marks the Trojans' first 2-0 start since 2014.
