SOUTH WOMEN’S BASKETBALL OPENS NEW YEAR, SUN BELT PLAY WITH WIN
MOBILE, Ala. – Shaforia Kines posted a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds while Savannah Jones added 20 points to help lead the University of South Alabama women's basketball team to a 81-66 Sun Belt Conference victory over Appalachian State Thursday at the Mitchell Center.

Kines finished the night 4-of-8 from three-point range and she also led the Jaguars (6-7, 1-0 Sun Belt) with five assists. Jala Buster scored 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the floor while Damaya Telemaque supplied 11 points and five rebounds as South connected on 50 percent from beyond the three-point arc while limiting the Mountaineers to 34.4 percent shooting from the floor.

Ragin’ Cajuns Open Sun Belt Play with 75-65 Win at Georgia State
ATLANTA – Four Ragin' Cajuns scored in double figures and the team matched a season high in 3-pointers with eight en route to a 75-65 victory over Georgia State in its Sun Belt Conference opener on Thursday evening.

With the 10-point victory, Louisiana (8-4, 1-0 SBC) picked up its first win in a league opener since defeating ULM, 71-52, on Dec. 3, 2015, in Monroe. The team is now 3-5 in league openers under head coach Garry Brodhead.

Eagles Claim Sun Belt WBB Opener Over ULM, 64-47, On Thursday
STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's basketball won its Sun Belt Conference opener for the first time since joining the league in 2014 with a 64-47 win over UL Monroe on Thursday evening at Hanner Fieldhouse.

The Eagles moved to 4-8 overall and start 1-0 in conference play for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign, when Georgia Southern won its first two SoCon contests. UL Monroe falls to 2-10 overall and 0-1 in Sun Belt play.

Troy Women's Basketball Defeats Coastal Carolina to Open Sun Belt Play
TROY, Ala. – Troy women's basketball earned win No. 10 with its 84-77 victory over Coastal Carolina at home to open Sun Belt Conference play Thursday night. The win was the Trojans seventh straight overall and its fourth consecutive season opening Sun Belt play with a victory.

Little Rock Trojans Win Sixth Straight Sun Belt Opener
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The last time a Joe Foley-coached squad lost its Sun Belt opener was in San Marcos on Jan. 2, 2014. History would not repeat itself.

Alayzha Knapp scored a season-high 20 points and was one of four Trojans in double figures as Little Rock (3-9, 1-0 Sun Belt) handed Texas State (7-5, 0-1) its first home loss of the season in a 78-66 decision at Strahan Arena Thursday night.

Chastain Leads @UTAMavsWBB To Win In SBC Opener
ARLINGTON – Claire Chastain scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Lady Mavs to a 71-44 win over Arkansas State in the Sun Belt Conference opener on Thursday night (Jan. 2) at College Park Center.

With the win, UTA improves to 7-6 overall (1-0 SBC), while the Red Wolves fall to 3-9 on the season (0-1 SBC).
