Sun Belt Women's Soccer 2020 All-Conference Awards
NEW ORLEANS - The Sun Belt Conference announced the 2020 Women's Soccer All-Conference teams and individual award winners on Tuesday. The league's 11 head coaches voted on each selection.
Arkansas State (10-2-1) finished the 2020 season as Sun Belt regular-season champions.
South Alabama (10-3-1) claimed the Sun Belt tournament championship by beating Arkansas State 2-1 in the finals in Foley, AL on Sunday.
The 2020 Sun Belt Player of the Year was Sarah Sodoma from Arkansas State. The senior from Manchester, Mo. Sodoma was also named the Offensive Player of the Year, after leading the Sun Belt in a number of statistical categories including goals (6), points (16), goals per game (0.60), shots per game (3.70), and game-winning goals (3). The senior also lead the league in points per game (1.60) and was third in shots (37) and assists (4). Sodoma's six goals were tied for third in the nation while her 4 assists were tied for fourth in the nation. Sodoma also led A-State in shots on goal (16), registered a team-high .432 shots on goal average, .162 shots percentage to go along with three game-winning goals on the year. Sodoma started all 10 of the Red Wolves contests while going 2/2 in penalty kicks.
The 2020 Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year was Arkansas State goalkeeper Megan McClure who led the Red Wolves to eight-shutouts on the year which was second most in the nation. McClure registered a Sun Belt low 0.20 goals against average and allowed only one goal in conference play. The Webster Grove, Mo. native also led the league with a .938 saves percentage and made 30 saves on the year. McClure recorded a team-high 887 minutes in goal. Her 0.29 goals against average and .913 saves percentage ranks third in the nation. McClure allowed just two goals on the year for an 8-1-1 record.
Coach of the Year honors went to Brian Dooley, from Arkansas State University, who led his squad to the regular season championship. This season was Dooley's fourth as the head coach of the Red Wolves program.
In addition to the six individual awards, the Sun Belt also announced the 2020 All-Sun Belt First and Second teams.
