2020 Sun Belt Cross Country Newcomer, Freshman and Coach of the Year announced

Men's Newcomer and Freshman of the Year Honors
Kirami Yego, South Alabama

Yego (First Team All-Sun Belt) paced the Jag’s finishing third overall (24:39.1) earning his first All-Sun Belt Conference honors. Back in September, the freshman was named Sun Belt Conference Runner of the Week after competing in his first cross country race as a Jaguar. Yego won that race with a time of 15:23.6, which was 16 seconds faster than the next closest runner. Led by Yego, South dominated the field taking home eight of the top nine spots to the team title at the Azalea City Classic.
 
 
Women's Newcomer and Freshman of the Year Honors
Grace Booher, Troy
(Auburn, ALA./Auburn High School)
 
Booher (Second Team All-Sun Belt) was the only freshman at the Sun Belt Championships to finish in the top ten. The Auburn, Ala. native was one of Troy's top three finishers in all four meets this season, highlighted by a third-place finish in the season opener.
 
 
2020 Sun Belt Cross Country Men’s Coach of the Year
Parker Cowles, South Alabama
 

The University of South Alabama men's cross country team placed five runners inside the top 11 spots to pick up the program's ninth Sun Belt Conference Championship. The Jag’s won the team title behind five all-conference performances. Kirami Yego (First Team All-Sun Belt) paced the men's team finishing third overall (24:39.1) earning his first All-Sun Belt Conference honor. Yego was joined by four other teammates who also earned All-Sun Belt honors: Kemboi (Second Team All-Sun Belt), Sand (Second Team All-Sun Belt), Potgieter (Second Team All-Sun Belt) and Pudner (Third Team All-Sun Belt).
 
2020 Sun Belt Cross Country Women’s Coach of the Year
Jesse Duvall, Arkansas State
 

The Arkansas State women's cross country team won the 2020 Sun Belt Conference Championship. The Red Wolves recorded a program-record 44 points en route to repeating as conference champions. All seven Red Wolves notched personal-best times in the women's race, as all five scorers finished inside the top 20 while the top three placed inside the top 10. Meyer and Leathers earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors, along with Gillette (Second Team All-Sun Belt) and Martin (Third Team All-Sun Belt).
