Troy 13, Georgia Southern 20
STATESBORO – Gerald Green ran for 109 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown, and Derrick Canteen sealed the win with a late interception as Georgia Southern notched a 20-13 Sun Belt Conference football win over Troy Saturday afternoon in Paulson Stadium.
Trailing 13-6 in the third quarter, Georgia Southern (5-2, 3-2) scored the final 14 points of the game to break a three-game losing skid against the Trojans. Green cut up the middle for a 69-yard run with 7:37 left in the third, and after the defense posted a 3-and-out, Werts went around the end for a 5-yard TD run late in the stanza.
Arkansas State 20, Louisiana 27
LAFAYETTE – Senior running back Elijah Mitchell's go-ahead touchdown run with 1:13 remaining in the game proved to be the difference as Louisiana picked up a 27-20 Homecoming victory over Arkansas State on Saturday afternoon.
Mitchell's score secured six of the Ragin' Cajuns' 27 second-half points, its highest point total in the final two quarters of any game this season. Additionally, the 27 points were the most by the team in a second half since recording 35 at Ohio on Sept. 21, 2019.
Louisiana (6-1, 4-1 Sun Belt) finished the ballgame with a 440-423 edge in total offense, 332 of those yards coming in the final 30 minutes.
ULM 34, Georgia State 52
ATLANTA – Cornelious Brown IV passed for 263 yards and accounted for four touchdowns, including two scoring passes to Cornelius McCoy, to lead Georgia State to a 52-34 victory over ULM Saturday at Center Parc Stadium.
Georgia State (3-3, 2-3 Sun Belt) tied the program record for points against an FBS opponent as the Panthers reached 52 points for the second time this season and fourth time over the last two years.
The Panthers rushed for 263 yards, including 102 by Destin Coates, who scored two touchdowns. The Sun Belt's leading rusher topped the 100-yard mark for the fourth time in five games this season, and he moved into fifth place on GSU's career rushing list with 1,219 yards.
App State 38, Texas State 17
AN MARCOS, Texas — A day of eye-catching firsts contributed to App State moving forward with no Sun Belt Conference losses on its record.
App State built a lead with first-time touchdowns from a trio of Mountaineers, who remained unbeaten in league play with a 38-17 victory at Texas State.
App State (5-1, 3-0) led 24-10 at the break thanks to first-half scores on a 32-yard catch from tight end Miller Gibbs, a 49-yard interception return from linebacker Brendan Harrington and a 1-yard reception from part-time fullback Caleb Spurlin, a starting defensive end.
Shemar Jean-Charles' third-quarter interception at the App State 9-yard line preceded a 91-yard touchdown march from the Mountaineers, capped by Zac Thomas' third touchdown pass of the day, a 9-yard connection with Jalen Virgil. Camerun Peoples closed the scoring on his 32-yard touchdown run with 5:59 left in the game against the Bobcats (1-8, 1-4).
South Alabama 6, Costal Carolina 23
CONWAY, S.C. – The No. 15/16 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers held South Alabama to just two field goals en route to a 23-6 win over the Jaguars on Homecoming Weekend, Saturday, Nov. 7, at Brooks Stadium.
Coastal is 7-0 for the fourth time in program history and the first time since 2015, and 5-0 in Sun Belt Conference play for the first time.
The 7-0 start has tied App State (2019) for the best start in Sun Belt history.
