TAMPA, Fla. – Georgia State opened the 2020 season at the USF-Rawlings Invitational in Tampa Friday, losing to Fresno State 5-0 and #17/#14 Michigan 6-1. The Panthers were blanked in Game 1 against Fresno State who is receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll. In Game 2 against Top 25 Michigan, redshirt freshman Emily Buck made her collegiate debut after missing all of last season due to injury.  Buck managed to hold Michigan's potent offense to just two runs through five innings.

CLEARWATER, Fla. – South Alabama dropped a pair of games Friday on day one of the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic presented by Rawlings at the Eddie C. Moore Complex. The Jags fell, 5-2 in the opener to Texas State and then dropped a heartbreaker, 7-5 in Game 2 to No. 25 Missouri.

SAN MARCOS, Texas Texas – Texas State impressively opened its 2020 season as the Bobcats won their season-opener, 5-2, and took No. 15-ranked Kentucky to a full seven innings before falling 2-1 in the seventh frame.

MONROE, La. – ULM split the pair of games against Stephen F. Austin and Southern on Friday, Feb. 7, to start the Mardi Gras Invitational at the ULM Softball Complex. ULM fell to SFA 8-2 in the first game, but the Warhawks rallied to score seven runs in the first two innings against the Jaguars and went on to defeat Southern 9-1 in five innings.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – UTA opened its 2020 season with a doubleheader split against in-state foe Texas A&M as the Mavericks dropped the first game in a tight affair before rallying back in the second to win big in College Station, Texas on Friday.The Mavs suffered a 2-0 setback in the first game before getting up early on the Aggies in the second game to prevail with an eventual 7-2 win.

TROY, Ala. – Leanna Johnson fanned 14 batters to lead Troy to a shutout victory over Lipscomb, 2-0, before the Trojans downed College of Charleston, 8-3, in the second game of the Trojan Classic on Saturday. Leanna Johnson (1-0) turned in her eighth double-digit strikeout game of her career in the win over Lipscomb (1-1) while Kelly Horne's two-run home run ignited the Trojan (2-0) offense to power Troy past College of Charleston (0-2) in the nightcap.

LAFAYETTE, La. – Top 10-ranked Louisiana posted a clean sweep of the opening day of the 2020 season at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park. The Ragin' Cajuns held off a late push from Ball State for a 3-2 win, then used a power surge to finish off UTSA in run-rule fashion 8-0 (5 inn.).

Virginia Tech 11, Coastal Carolina 2
CONWAY, S.C. – On Friday, Coastal Carolina (0-1) dropped its opening game of the season by the score of 11-2 to the Virginia Tech Hokies as part of the opening day of the Residence Inn Kickin' Chicken Classic at St. John Stadium.

Georgia Southern 10, Hartford 2 (6 inn.)
STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern opened up the 2020 season with a 10-2 run-rule victory over Hartford Friday night at Eagle Field on the first day of the Bash at the Boro Tournament. Due to weather on Thursday delaying Friday morning's action, the Eagles' second schedule game of the day was canceled due to time constraints.
