South Alabama 32, Southern Miss 21
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The University of South Alabama football team had two individuals record over 100 yards receiving and three who finished with 10-plus tackles, with that combination helping lead the Jaguars to a 32-21 non-conference victory Thursday over Southern Mississippi in the season opener for both programs at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
Jalen Tolbert posted 169 yards and two scores while Jalen Wayne supplied 101 yards — each caught six balls — as the Jaguars ended up with 526 yards of total offense. Desmond Trotter threw for 299 yards and two scores while Carlos Davis rushed for 85 on 15 carries as well.
Nick Mobley paced all players with 15 stops, with Keith Gallmon and Riley Cole adding 12 apiece as South limited the the Golden Eagles to just 95 yards rushing.
Jack Abraham paced USM, going 22-of-32 passing for 314 yards, while Tim Jones hauled in six balls for 139 yards. Malik Shorts was credited with 11 stops and Swayze Bozeman had 10 to lead the Golden Eagle defense.
