Sun Belt Announces Baseball Players of the Week: App State’s Martinez and Troy's Cerny

PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Quinton Martinez, Appalachian State
(#18, Sr, LHP - Orlando, Fla.)

Martinez faced only one batter over the minimum in a career-high seven shutout innings against Winthrop. App State won 4-0 against a Winthrop team that went 11-4 last year and was picked to finish second in the Big South Conference. The only Sun Belt pitcher with more than five scoreless innings this weekend, Martinez picked up the win by allowing three hits (all singles). Only one baserunner reached second and none advanced to third.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Logan Cerny, Troy
(#16, So, OF - Lawrenceville, Ga.)

Cerny had one of the best outings of Opening Weekend in the nation Saturday against Youngstown State. Cerny blasted three home runs and two doubles Saturday against the Penguins, tying the school record for total bases in a single game (16) set in 1990. He was the first Troy player since 2014 to hit three home runs in a game. The centerfielder totaled seven RBIs and scored three runs in his 5-for-5 day at the plate. Cerny is slashing .625/.667/2.000 (batting average/ on base %/slugging%) after the first weekend of play and leads the league in home runs, total bases and is tied for the most doubles.
