Sun Belt Announces Softball Weekly Honors

NEW ORLEANS - The Sun Belt Conference announced its softball weekly honors on Tuesday. Appalachian State catcher Baylee Morton was named Player of the Week, while South Alabama's Olivia Lackie earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

Morton started all five games at catcher this week for App State, posting a .429 batting average on the weekend. She hit four home runs over five games and now has five on the season, matching last season’s total. The senior scored seven runs and knocked in 10 RBIs, with a 1.357 slugging percentage. In the 12-7 win against Charlotte, Morton had a double and two home runs matching her career-high with five RBIs,. The senior followed that up with a three RBI game in a 9-5 win over UNCG, hitting the go-ahead home run in the sixth. She added another home run in the final game of the series against UNCG.


Softball Pitcher of the Week

Olivia Lackie, South Alabama

Lackie recorded four solid performances out of the bullpen for South Alabama over the weekend at the Jaguar Classic. In 12.2 innings of relief, the freshman righty struck out 24, while allowing just two runs and three walks. Lackie, who was named to the all-tournament team, tossed 3.2 innings of two-hit ball and struck out seven Friday night to pick up the victory in relief over Murray State. Saturday saw the Walker, La., native make a pair of appearances. In game one, she entered in relief striking out eight of the 14 batters she faced, while only surrendering one hit. Lackie picked up her second win in relief against Butler in game two, adding six more strikeouts to her weekend total in three innings of work. On Sunday, she tossed two perfect innings of relief, striking out three. Lackie leads the team in strikeouts (34) and holds a 2.4:1.0 strikeout to walk ratio.
