UTA's Tavera & Troy's Cerny Earn Sun Belt Weekly Accolades

NEW ORLEANS – UTA’s Carlos Tavera and Troy’s Logan Cerny earn Sun Belt weekly accolades after leading their respective teams to victories on the opening weekend of conference play.
 
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Carlos Tavera, UTA
(Jr., RHP – Fort Worth, Texas)
 
Mavericks junior right-handed pitcher Carlos Tavera carried a no-hitter into the 8th inning of Friday’s Sun Belt opener against South Alabama. In the process, the Fort Worth, Texas, native allowed just one earned run and struck out 11 batters—the second-most in his career, falling one short of his all-time high of 12 against Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 26. 
 
Baseball Player of the Week
Logan Cerny, Troy
(So., OF – Lawrenceville, Ga.) 
 
Trojans sophomore outfielder Logan Cerny hit .636 (7-for-11) and slugged 1.455 on the weekend—with a double, a triple and a pair of home runs—in Troy’s series victory over Georgia Southern. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native posted his second multi-homer game of the season and became the first Trojan to homer in consecutive at-bats since April 2019 in Sunday’s series finale.
