Sun Belt Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced its weekly baseball honors on Tuesday.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Mason Patel, Georgia State
(#2, Fr, RHP - Knoxville, Tenn.)

Georgia State true freshman right-hander Mason Patel was outstanding in a midweek start at No. 10 Georgia Tech, leading the Panthers to a 10-1 victory and their fourth win of the season over a nationally-ranked opponent. Making just his second start, Patel pitched six scoreless innings and struck out eight, the most strikeouts for a GSU freshman since 2013. Patel allowed four hits, all singles, and walked only one. The Knoxville, Tenn., native retired the first 10 batters of the game before allowing his first hit. After Georgia Tech loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth inning, Patel kept them off the scoreboard with two strikeouts and a flyout to end the threat.

Baseball Player of the Week
Kobe Barnum, Little Rock
(#33, Sr, 1B - Temple Terrace, Fla.)

Barnum batted .455 on the week with a 1.000 slugging percentage in helping the Trojans to a 3-1 record. The senior ignited the Little Rock offense against North Alabama, going 5-for-10 with two home runs and seven RBI, leading the Trojans to the series win. In Sunday's win, he went 4-for-5 with a career-best six RBI, driving in six of Little Rock's 10 runs. Hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning broke the game open. Barnum notched a solo home run in Saturday's win, getting Little Rock on the board and sparking the Trojan offense that produced their two highest run outputs of the season.
