Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Keith Gill Appointed to NCAA Men's Basketball Committee

NEW ORLEANS – Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Keith Gill was one of five new members appointed to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee on Thursday. Gill will serve a five-year term, encompassing the 2021-22 through 2025-26 seasons.

“Being named to the Selection Committee is a great honor, but more importantly, the appointment is a wonderful opportunity for the Sun Belt Conference,” said Commissioner Gill.

The Committee—which is responsible for selecting, seeding and bracketing the field for March Madness—will expand from 10 to 12 members for the 2021-22 campaign, based on a proposal adopted by the NCAA Division I Council.

The Committee consists of one member selected from each of the five autonomy conferences and three members selected from the seven highest-ranked nonautonomy conferences based on basketball success. Four additional members are selected from the remaining 20 conferences.

Gill is in his second year with the Sun Belt Conference, after serving as the Executive Associate Commissioner of the Atlantic 10 Conference (2017-19) and the Director of Athletics at both Richmond (2013-17) and American (2007-12). He previously worked in the athletic departments at Oklahoma and Vanderbilt, along with two stints in the membership services department at the NCAA national office. A four-year letterman at Duke, Gill graduated from the university with a bachelor’s degree in 1994 and went on to receive his master’s degree from Oklahoma in 2006.

Joining Gill as new members on the committee are Minnesota athletic director Mark Coyle, UCLA athletic director Martin Jarmond, Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne and Butler athletic director Barry Collier.

Returning committee members include 2021-22 chair and Southland Conference commissioner Tom Burnett, North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham, Southwestern Athletic Conference commissioner Charles McClelland, Atlantic 10 commissioner Bernadette McGlade, Toledo athletic director Mike O’Brien, Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard and Bradley athletic director Chris Reynolds.
