NEW ORLEANS – With four weekends remaining in the season, the top-half of the standings are volatile as the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship nears.
 
Current front-runner and 14th-ranked Louisiana (32-6, 14-1 SBC) is on a 17-game winning streak. They recently handed Troy (26-9, 10-3) their first loss in league action. The Trojans had not lost a game since March 10.
 
Texas State (26-6, 8-3), hovering around the Top 25 in the major polls, is third in the conference standings and will face the Ragin’ Cajuns this weekend. The Bobcats also have a critical road series against the Trojans beginning April 30.
 
South Alabama (21-12, 9-4) sits in fourth just behind Texas State, who they swept last weekend. Behind freshman and reigning Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week Olivia Lackie, the Jags have also swept both App State (20-10, 4-5) and Coastal Carolina (11-18, 2-10). USA faces UT Arlington this weekend (13-23, 6-6), who is fifth in the Sun Belt standings.
 
“We are looking forward to our softball championships,” said Sun Belt Conference Deputy Commissioner Kathy Keene, who oversees the conference’s championship events. “With so many competitive softball teams in our conference, we’re expecting a strong postseason for the Sun Belt. Our postseason excitement starts on May 11th with the 2021 Sun Belt Softball Championship in Troy.” 
 
The 2021 Softball Championship, scheduled May 11-15 at the Troy Softball Complex in Alabama, will include all 10 Sun Belt programs. The bottom four teams in the standings (seeds 7-10) will compete on Tuesday, May 11 in a single-elimination, play-in round. The double-elimination games will begin on May 12, with the championship game set for Saturday, May 15 at 2:30 p.m. CT.
