NEW ORLEANS - The Sun Belt Conference announced its softball weekly honors on Tuesday. Coastal Carolina’s Kayla Rosado picked up the Player of the Week award, while Texas State’s Meagan King earned the Pitcher of the Week nod.
 
Softball Player of the Week
 
Kayla Rosado, Coastal Carolina
(#42, Gr, IF – Iradell, N.J.)
 
Rosado made sure her bat still talked despite snapping a 10-game hitting streak last week. The Iradell, New Jersey, native hit safely in 5-of-6 games and helped Coastal Carolina extend its winning streak to seven games with victories over Campbell and UTA. Rosado batted .429 (6-for-14) and OPS of 1.699. She added a double, three home runs, eight RBI, and a .556 on-base percentage that included two walks. Rosado’s honor marks consecutive weeks that a member of the Chanticleers’ squad was named the week’s top league player. Last week, senior Makiya Thomas received the honor.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
 
Meagan King, Texas State
(#8, Sr, RHP – Mont Belvieu, Texas)
 
King pitched a team-high 10.0 innings of scoreless softball in two appearances against Georgia Southern. The senior matched her career high with 11 strikeouts in Game 3 against the Eagles, the most by the Mont Belvieu, Texas, native in a conference game. King did not give up a walk and held opponents to a .088 batting average. She earned her team-high third save of the season when she retired all nine batters she faced in the Bobcats’ second win against the Eagles to clinch the series. King and the Texas State pitching staff prevented Georgia Southern from scoring a single run all weekend. King gave up just three hits while in the circle, all of which were in-field singles and only allowed one baserunner to reach second base. King is the second member from the Bobcats’ staff to tab the league honor this season, with ace Jessica Mullins earning the award in Week 3.
