Troy Sweeps Weekly Honors After Weekend Sweep in League Play

NEW ORLEANS - The Sun Belt Conference announced its softball weekly honors on Tuesday. Troy swept the weekly awards with Katie Lively picking up the Player of the Week award, and Leanna Johnson earning her third Pitcher of the Week nod this season.

Softball Player of the Week
Katie Lively, Troy
(#25, So, OF/P – Helena, Ala.)

Sophomore Katie Lively picks up her first Player of the Week honor after recording an outstanding .800 batting average, 1.500 slugging percentage with four doubles, a home run, and three RBIs. Lively turned in three multi-hit games and a multi-RBI game over the weekend to help the Trojans sweep Georgia Southern and remain perfect in conference play. Of Lively's eight hits last weekend, five of them were for extra bases. The left fielder contributed half of Troy's doubles this weekend (4-of-8) and did not strikeout in any of her 10 at-bats. The Trojans currently lead the nation with 66 doubles, while front-running the league with doubles per game (2.13), which ranks third in the country. Lively’s 31 hits on the season is ninth in the Sun Belt.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Leanna Johnson, Troy
(#10, So, P – Brantley, Ala.)

Sophomore Leanna Johnson picks up her third honor as Pitcher of the Week and third of the year. The Brantley, Alabama, native co-leads the conference along with South Alabama’s Olivia Lackie who also has been named the league’s top weekly pitcher on three different occasions this season. Johnson turned in an impressive stat line, recording a 0.00 ERA with 20 strikeouts, and a pair of shutout wins over her 11 innings of work against Georgia Southern. In Game 1, Johnson turned in her eighth double-digit strikeout contest after fanning 14 Eagles. The right-hander scattered just two hits en route to her first victory of the weekend. On Saturday, Johnson earned her 50th career win throwing four of the five shutout innings to record her sixth game with two or fewer hits this season. Of the four hits allowed, just one was for extra-bases (double). Johnson currently paces the league with 177 strikeouts, which ranks third in the nation and also tops the Sun Belt in strikeouts per seven innings (11.7) which is 13th in the country.
