App State's Terrell Named to John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List

NEW ORLEANS – App State junior utility man Andrew Terrell was 1-of-17 student-athletes named to the watch list for the 10th-annual John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award

Presented by the College Baseball Foundation, the award is named for former Washington State standout John Olerud, who achieved success both as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s and was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.

Terrell has appeared in 20-of-24 games for the Mountaineers, earning starts at six different positions—left field, center field, right field, third base, designated hitter and pitcher. The Franklin, N.C., product has reached based 30 times this season, with three doubles, five stolen bases, eight RBIs and 12 runs scored. On the mound, Terrell has tossed 4.1 innings, recording 11 strikeouts across four appearances.

“Andrew’s versatility is huge for our team,” App State head coach Kermit Smith said. “I think the thing that is overlooked a lot of times is how hard it is to be a two-way player, then throw on top of that the fact that he plays the infield and outfield. It’s a huge time commitment to try and balance being good at all of those areas.”

Terrell was named the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week on March 9, following a four-game stretch in which he started at three different positions.
