MOBILE, Ala. — Arkansas State swept the men’s and women’s 2021 Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Jaguar Track in Mobile. The men earned 164 total points and the women registered 139.
The Red Wolves Bennett Pascoe claimed men’s high point honors for his 25 points collected from two first-place finishes in the 1500m and the steeplechase. The Conway, Ark., native also earned a fourth-place finish in the 5000m run.
Coastal Carolina’s Melissa Jefferson earned women’s high point accolades after collecting 22.50 points. Jefferson earned gold in the 100m and 200m dash. The Georgetown, S.C., product also helped lead the Chanticleers’ 400-meter relay team to gold in the first running event of the afternoon.
Jaguars’ Christian Ellis claimed the men’s triple jump after registering a 15.50m (50’ 10 ¼”) mark. John Joseph of Louisiana jumped a 15.30m (49’ 10½”) to finish second in the event and Arkansas State’s Carter Shell took home bronze with a 14.91 (48’ 11”) mark.
App State’s Peighton Simmons led the women’s triple jump with a mark of 12.83m (42’ 1 ¾”) and Arkansas State’s Imani Udoumana (12.82 0 ¾”) finished second in the event. The Mountaineer’s Maya Hanks earned bronze with a jump of 12.59m (41’ 3 ¾”).
South Alabama’s Francois Prinsloo earned his fifth gold medal of the outdoor season in the discus with a 55.63m toss. Arkansas State’s Eron Carter (54.65m, 179’ 6”) claimed silver, edging Texas State’s Brandon Busby (53.81m, 176’ 6”), who finished third.
Kyle Rademeyer of South Alabama claimed first place in the men’s pole vault with a 5.31m (17’ 5”) mark. The Jags’ David Dolan placed second, registering a 5.11 (16’ 9 ¼”) vault. South Alabama's Noah Mumme, Texas State’s Issac Sadzewics, and Louisiana’s Cole Courtois tied for third with a vault of 5.01m (16’ 5 1/4”).
Troy’s Titus Sizemore won the men’s high jump with a 2.16m (7’ 1”) jump. Bryson DeBerry (2.13m, 11 3/4”) of UTA and Frank Massey (2.13m, 6’11 ¾”) of A-State finished second and the third.
Arkansas State’s Babette Vandeput and Evangelynn Harris claimed first and second in the women’s discus. Vandeput tossed a 53.78m (176’ 5”) and Harris registered a 51.10m (167’ 8”) mark. Collette Harris of South Alabama finished third in the event, with a mark of 50.44m (165’ 6”).
Coastal Carolina’s 400-meter relay team, featuring Melissa Jefferson, Kayla Sweeney, Keniah Wallace and Jermaisha Arnold won the women’s 400-meter relay with a time of 44.75, edging Louisiana and Georgia Southern.
The Ragin’ Cajuns won the men’s 400-meter relay, with a team featuring Tejun Jones, Terroll Jolla, Jamhad Booth and Brock Appiah. The quartet posted a time of 40.24, to finish ahead of Troy and Coastal Carolina.
Madeline Rowe of UTA paced the women’s 1500m run with a time of 4:26.48. A-State’s Pauline Meyer earned second place in the race after registering a time of 4:27.33. Lee-Anne Blake also earned a medal in the event after running a 4:29.07.
Bennett Pascoe won his second gold medal of the outdoor track and field championship meet in the 1500m and set a meet record with a time of 3:45.31. Red Wolves Seth Waters (3:47.79) finished second and UTA's Connor Butterfield (3:48.57) earned a third-place finish.
Coastal Carolina’s Jermaisha Arnold won the women’s 400m dash and broke a Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field championship record with a time of 52.69. Georgia Southern’s Scovia Ayikoru (53.95) finished second and Coastal Carolina’s Amaryah White (53.97) placed third. Texas State’s Jaylen Allen claimed the men’s 400m dash with a time of 46.44, A-State’s Jeremy Walker (46.48) finished second and Zavier Rogers (46.60) crossed in third.
Troy’s Gemma Finch and Edita Sklensska claimed first and second in the women’s 800m. Finch ran a 2:07.98 in the event and Sklenska registered a time of 2:09.08. Breanna Clark of Texas State earned bronze after running a 2:14.49. Pedro Osorio Lopez of Texas State won the men’s 800m with a time of 1:51.12. A-State’s Seth Waters (1:51.12) finished second in the event, edging UTA’s Connor Butterfield (1:51.37).
Melissa Jefferson of Coastal Carlina paced the women’s 100m dash, winning the event with a time of 11.22. Louisiana’s Kiana Foster and Texas State’s Sadi Giles finished second and third. Foster ran a time of 11.55 and Giles posted a 11.68. Brock Appiah won the men’s 100m dash after registering a 10.39, edging Texas State’s Bervensky Pierre (10.47) and Terroll Jolla (10.50).
In the women’s 100m hurdles, Texas State’s Kattiana Ealy-Pulido (13.33) and Ariana Ealy-Pulido (13.35) claimed first and third. Georgia Southern’s Zykeria Williams finished second with a time of 13.36. Coastal Carolina’s Braydon Bennett won the men’s 110m hurdles after registering a time of 13.77, ahead of Louisiana’s Yves Cherubin (13.83) and UTA’s Joel Bengtsson (13.87).
Coastal Carolina’s Shani’a Bellamy earned a first-place finish in the 400m hurdles, running a time of 58.58. Kattiana Ealy-Pulido (58.82) finished second and Shelby West of UTA finished third with a time of 59.99.
Louisiana’s Nathan Fergusson won the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of 51.60. Arkansas State’s Darrian Lockett and Dairen Davis finished second and third in the event. Lockett registered a time of 52.26 and Davis a time of 52.60.
Melissa Jefferson won her second medal of the championship meet, winning the 200m dash with a time of 22.96. Kiana Foster (23.62) finished the race in second place, edging Jermaisha Arnold, who ran a 23.91. Troy’s Matthew Likely won the men’s 200m with a time of 20.44, edging A-State’s Jermie Walker (22.79) and Texas State’s Bervensky Pierre (20.87).
Carolien Millenaar paced the women’s 5,000m, running a 17:00.73. A-State Sophie Leathers (17:02.16) finished second and Lee-Anne Blake earned third place (17:12.73). Arkansas State’s Lexington Hilton took the men’s 5000m after registering a 14.10.27 time to outpace UTA’s Cole Klashinsky (14:22.01) and Justin Domangue (14:22.83).
Coastal Carolina won the women’s 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:38.70. The Chanticleers’ relay team featured Amaryah White, Lauren Gordon, Tariney Pepper and Jermaisha Arnold. Troy’s relay squad finished second and ULM’s earned bronze.
Texas State won the men’s 1600-meter relay with the team of Kobe Daniels, Jaylen Allen, Pedro Osorio Lopez, and Taahir Kelly, posting a time of 3:10.30. Troy’s (3:12.00) 4x400 team finished second, edging South Alabama (3:15.30).
