A Record Four Sun Belt Teams Advance to NCAA Regionals

NEW ORLEANS – On a historic Selection Sunday, a league-best four Sun Belt Conference softball teams earned bids to NCAA Regionals, as announced during the NCAA Softball Championship Selection Special on ESPN2.

Sun Belt softball champion Louisiana (44-10) will head to the Baton Rouge Regional, while conference tournament runner-up South Alabama (30-19) will start the Road to the Women’s College World Series at the Gainesville Regional.

Texas State (38-12) will head to the Austin Regional and Troy (36-15) will make its first regional appearance since 1996 at the Tuscaloosa Regional.

NCAA Regionals will be held May 21-23 on 16 campus sites. A four-team, double-elimination tournament will be conducted at each campus site, with the 16 regional victors advancing to super regionals. Click this link for the full tournament bracket.

The Ragin' Cajuns will face George Washington at 5:30 p.m. CT on May 21, live on ESPN3. Louisiana could also see No. 7 seed LSU (32-19) and McNeese State (34-24) in Baton Rouge. 

The Jaguars will open against Baylor (27-21) at 3:30 p.m. CT on May 21, live on ESPN3. The Gainesville Regional also includes No. 4 seed Florida (42-9) and South Florida (29-17). 

The Trojans will join No. 3 seed Alabama, Alabama State and Clemson in Tuscaloosa. Troy will open against Clemson at 2 p.m. CT on May 21—live on ESPN3. 

In Austin, the Bobcats will face off against Oregon (37-15) at 6:30 p.m. on May 21, with the game being broadcast on ESPN3. No. 12 seed Texas (39-11) and Saint Francis (PA) (40-8) will also compete in the regional. 

Louisiana is making its 30th all-time NCAA tournament appearance, which paces the conference, followed by Texas State's 10 postseason berths. South Alabama will make its fifth appearance in the NCAA tournament.
