GAINESVILLE, Fla. — South Alabama’s 28th NCAA tournament appearance concluded in the Gainesville Regional final Monday.
After falling to Miami, 1-0, in its regional opener on Friday, the Jaguars battled back through the loser’s bracket to advance to the regional final. South Alabama eliminated No. 15 overall seed Florida with a 19-1 outburst on Saturday, before avenging its earlier loss to Miami with a 7-2 victory on Sunday.
The Jaguars bested USF 4-0 to force the winner-take-all regional finale in a game that commenced on Sunday evening and concluded on Monday morning due to weather in the Gainesville area.
The Bulls, who also earned wins over No. 15 overall seed Florida and Miami, proved too much for the Jaguars in Monday’s rematch, claiming a 6-4 win to advance to NCAA Super Regionals.
Sun Belt regular-season and tournament champion South Alabama concludes its 2021 campaign with a 36-22 record, including its thrilling three-game run at the Gainesville Regional.
