South Alabama takes down Jacksonville 71-58 behind Williams
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) Ken Williams scored 21 points and Georgi Boyanov added 18 points to help South Alabama pull away in the second half to beat Jacksonville 71-58 on Sunday in the final game of the Red Diamond Roundball Classic.
Devin Harris opened the second half with a 3 to pull Jacksonville to within two points at 30-28. After trading baskets, the Dolphins missed six shots, turned the ball over twice and South Alabama went on a 19-8 run and led 53-41 with eight minutes left to play.
Tournament host South Alabama shot 52.8 percent from the field compared with 37.5 percent for the Dolphins. The Jaguars outscored Jacksonville 18-12 in the paint and 16-2 on fast-break points.
J.R. Holder was the only starter in double figures for Jacksonville (3-2) with 20 points. Tanner Rubio and Darien Fernandez each added nine points.

Arkansas State wins mainland Maui Jim Maui Invitational
WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) Donte Thomas had 18 points and 10 assists, Devin Carter scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Arkansas State beat Chattanooga 73-67 on Sunday to win the mainland Maui Jim Maui Invitational.
Arkansas State also beat Central Baptist, Georgetown and Army.
Arkansas State went on an early 11-0 run to take a 21-10 lead and the Red Wolves had a 39-25 lead at halftime. Thomas hit a 3-pointer midway through the second half to extend Arkansas State's lead to 60-40.
Jahmiah Simmons added 12 points for Arkansas State (4-1), which made 54.5 percent of its shots. It was the first double-double of the season for Thomas.
Justin Tuoyo made 10 of 13 free-throw attempts and had 22 points and nine rebounds for Chattanooga (3-2). The Mocs went to the line 38 times, making 30, while the Red Wolves only had 23 attempts.

Mika scores 19, hits 8 of 12 FGs, BYU beats Coastal Carolina
PROVO, Utah (AP) Eric Mika had 19 points, on 8-of-12 shooting, and 11 rebounds, Nick Emery scored 14 and BYU cruised to an 81-65 win over Coastal Carolina on Saturday night.
L.J. Rose, a graduate transfer from Houston, added season highs of nine points, six rebounds and nine assists.
Rose scored five points during a 14-4 run that gave BYU (3-0) a 31-17 lead with 4 minutes left in the half. The Cougars led by double figures the rest of the way.
CCU (1-3) made 26 of 76 from the field, including 5 of 26 (19 percent) from 3-point range, and just 8 of 16 foul shots.
BYU had 24 assists - including a season-high five by freshman TJ Haws - on 33 made field goals. Haws is the younger brother of Tyler Haws, the Cougars' all-time leading scorer with 2,720 career points.
Joseph Williams-Powell and Elijah Wilson scored 11 points apiece for the Chanticleers.

Mercer tops rival Georgia Southern in Savannah Invite opener
MACON, Ga. (AP) Ria'n Holland scored 18 points, all five Mercer starters scored in double figures and the Bears beat rival Georgia Southern 80-67 on Sunday in an opening-round game of the Savannah Invitational.
It was the 114th meeting in the series - but just the first since 2007.
Holland, Stephon Jelks (15 points), Desmond Ringer (14 points), Demetre Rivers (13) and Jordan Strawberry (13) combined to outscore Georgia Southern's starters 73-46. Andrew Fishler was the only Mercer (2-1) reserve to score.
The Bears were just 5 of 21 from distance but made 27 of 32 free-throw attempts.
Ike Smith scored 19 points, B.J. Gladden had 16 and Tookie Brown added 15 for Georgia Southern (1-2). Brown made 5 of 9 3-pointers and Gladden had seven rebounds and four blocks. The Eagles were held to 36.8 percent shooting.
The Invite is an eight-team, two-bracket event.

South Alabama stays unbeaten, tops Youngstown State, 84-75
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) Ken Williams doubled his season average, scoring 19 points and distributing seven assists as South Alabama remained undefeated by winning its second straight game in its own tournament, holding off Youngstown State 84-75 Saturday afternoon.
The Jaguars (4-0) face Jacksonville, which beat Florida International in overtime Saturday, in the Roundball Classic finale Sunday. South Alabama beat Florida International in overtime in its tournament opener Friday.
Shaq Calhoun dunked with 2:21 left to give South Alabama a 79-72 lead and Nick Stover did the same with 17 seconds left to make it 82-75. Stover added a layup with a second left for the final margin.
Stover finished with 16 points for the Jaguars and Don MuepoKelly added another dozen points and grabbed a dozen rebounds.
Cameron Morse scored 27 points to lead Youngstown State (1-3). Jorden Kaufman added 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

Arkansas St holds on to beat Army 60-57
WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) Devin Carter scored 11 points and had five rebounds, and Donte Thomas and Rashad Lindsey each had nine points to give Arkansas State a 60-57 win against Army on Saturday.
Lindsey's layup off a steal put Arkansas State (3-1) ahead 59-44 with 5:10 to play. The Black Knights ended the game with a 13-1 run to close to three points.
Kennedy Edwards collected a steal with 10 seconds left, but Thomas Funk missed a 3-point attempt with five seconds left and the Red Wolves collected the rebound.
Arkansas State led 24-22 at halftime and built the lead to 49-31 with 10:50 left to play.
The Red Wolves shot 22 for 55 (40 percent) from the floor while Army (1-2) struggled, converting just 17 of 54 shots (31.5).
Mac Hoffman led Army with 17 points and four boards and Jordan Fox added 15.
