Louisiana, ULM, Texas State earn wins

Washington, Wright lead Louisiana past Pepperdine

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) Bryce Washington scored 19 points with 10 rebounds and Jay Wright scored 18 as hot-shooting Louisiana defeated Pepperdine 90-64 on Tuesday night.

The Ragin' Cajuns shot 56 percent from the floor (38-68), including eight 3-pointers, and added 12 steals and four blocked shots to the mix as Pepperdine committed 24 turnovers.

Freshman Jerekius Davis scored a career-best 13 points for Louisiana (10-3) and P.J. Hardy added 12. The double-double was Washington's sixth this season and third in four games.

Chris Reyes scored 14 points with eight rebounds to lead Pepperdine (4-7), which is on a road swing through Louisiana and Montana having lost two starters to injury.

Washington was 9 of 12 from the field while Wright shot 9-for-11. The Ragin' Cajuns led for all but 1:06 and were up 41-26 at the half.

The win marks the first time since the 1990-91 season that Louisiana has recorded 10 wins before the start of Sun Belt Conference play.

ULM hands Coppin State 13th loss, 65-53

BALTIMORE (AP) Marvin Jean-Pierre scored 23 points, Sam McDaniel had 21 points and 10 rebounds, and ULM beat Coppin State 65-53 on Tuesday.

ULM led by as many as 19 points and didn't allow Coppin State within single digits in the second half.

Joshua Treadwell and Keith Shivers made 3-pointers on consecutive Coppin State possessions with under a minute to play but Jordon Harris and McDaniel each answered with two free throws to hold off the Eagles.

Jean-Pierre was 10 of 12 from the field and McDaniel made nine of his 12 free-throw attempts for ULM (5-6), which was outscored 33-3 in bench points.

ULM jumped out to a 27-8 lead after Wade Martin made a 3-pointer midway through the first half. The Warhawks led by 16 points at halftime behind Jean-Pierre's 13 points.

Dejuan Clayton scored 11 points on 5-of-14 shooting for Coppin State (1-13), which ended a 12-game losing streak Thursday against Division II Goldey-Beacom.

Texas State routs Division III member Howard Payne 87-37

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) Maljhum McCrea scored a career-high 17 points and Texas State rolled to an 87-37 victory over Division III member Howard Payne on Tuesday night.

McCrea was 8 of 10 from the floor. Nijal Pearson had 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds for Texas State (6-5). Maxwell Starwood added 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting. Immanuel King finished with 11 points.

The Bobcats had 21 assists, led by Kavin Gilder-Tilbury's seven. Texas State outrebounded Howard Payne 44-31 and forced 26 turnovers.

Rickey Guillory scored six points to lead the Yellow Jackets, who shot 14 of 50 from the floor (28 percent).

Texas State had a double-digit lead about seven minutes into the game and led 43-22 at halftime. Guillory made a 3-pointer to pull Howard Payne to 45-30 early in the second half but they didn't get closer.

Davenport blocks shot at buzzer, Winthrop wins 86-84

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) Xavier Cooks had 27 points and 10 rebounds, Joshua Davenport blocked a 3-point attempt at the buzzer and Winthrop beat Georgia Southern 86-84 on Tuesday.

Winthrop took an 85-81 lead with 56 seconds left when Keon Johnson drove through traffic and made a layup. He drew a charge on the other end, but Winthrop turned it over on their next possession and Mike Hughes sank a 3-pointer from the corner with 29.6 seconds left to make it 85-84.

Davenport made 1 of 2 free throws with 27.2 seconds left for a two-point lead. Georgia Southern wasn't able to get off a quick shot and Hughes missed long 3, but the ball was recovered in the backcourt by GSU. After a long pass to the 3-point line, Ike Smith's shot was blocked.

Johnson scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half for Winthrop (7-3). Roderick Perkins made three of the Eagles' 11 3-pointers and scored 11 points.

Smith had 26 points, six rebounds and four assists for Georgia Southern (6-6). Tookie Brown added 20 points and Hughes finished with 17.
