UT Arlington beats Texas State 72-63 in Sun Belt quarterfinals

NEW ORLEANS (AP) Drew Charles had career-highs with six 3-pointers and 22 points to lead UT Arlington to a 72-63 victory over Texas State on Friday night in a Sun Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinal.

The third-seeded Mavericks (23-9) will face No. 2 seed UL Monroe in semifinals on Saturday.

Kaelon Wilson scored 15 points and Erick Neal added 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists for UT Arlington, which has won five straight.

Cameron Naylor and Emani Gant had 13 points apiece for No. 7 seed Texas State (15-16). Kavin Gilder-Tilbury added 12 points.

The Bobcats had an eight-point lead early in the second half and had their last lead, 55-54, with eight minutes remaining. It was tied 60-all before Jones made two free throws, Charles hit back-to-back 3-pointers and two free throws and the Mavericks led 70-60 with 26 seconds left.
